Flat, boring, uninteresting, empty…..are all adjectives that can be used to describe the land that over the centuries has been reclaimed from the sea and set aside for farming.
This Fenland stretches over Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and parts of Norfolk and it is the landscape where I live and take my inspiration.
The adjectives I prefer to use are haunting, breathless, still, inspirational and mysterious.
I photograph the fens using a variety of cameras and make prints in the darkroom but I think the images made on black and white instant film come close to conveying how I feel about this landscape.
Made using a plastic box Polaroid camera or a more sophisticated SX70 Alpha One.
